Psalm 76

Psalm 76

(Read Psalm 76)

This is another song of Asaph and he appears to be of a different temperament to David. David always seemed to struggle with his own failures but ends in finding his peace with God. Asaph seems to dwell a lot more on failures and God’s judgement.

Here he extols God’s greatness, rejoices in the mighty works of God that he accomplished on many occasions defeating the enemy of God’s people thus demonstrating that our God is a God to be feared and not taken lightly. To Asaph he is also a God that brings judgement on all who oppress God’s people.

Thus he challenges us to commit ourselves to the God who is feared, for he is certain that all authorities are from God and are answerable to God. Famous, infamous or unknown all have the position by divine appointment.
