Psalms Overview 2

Psalm

A second theme worth studying from the Psalms is that of prophetic pictures of the Lord Jesus Christ, for example Psalm 23:1-6, “The Lord is my Shepherd”.

The work of the shepherd is to protect and care for the flock. In John 10:2-4 and John 10:7-17 we learn that the Lord Jesus Christ is first the good shepherd who gives his life for the sheep. He is also the door, the way into the sheepfold and also the protector of the sheep. He is the true shepherd, the one who knows his sheep and his sheep know him recognising his voice and following him.

He is called the chief shepherd in relation to his return, 1 Peter 5:4. Then in Revelation, the last book of the Bible, the one who is known as the Lamb of God in John 1:29, he will also shepherd his people and lead them all to the rich provision that God has provided in Heaven Rev 7:17.
