Psalm 51

Psalm 51

(Read Psalm 51)

Here the writer gives us the solution to the terrible day of judgment outlined in the previous Psalm. The solution comes from God. God is love and in his great love he has opened the door of opportunity to escape that judgment.

In verse two there is a cry for cleansing ‘wash me thoroughly from my iniquities’. In verse ten the desire for a new heart, a heart that is cleansed from sin and dedicated to his service. Also within this Psalm is the blessed reality of being restored into a deep relationship with God. As John in his first letter tells us, our fellowship is with the father and the son. But the author also challenges those of us who have accepted God’s salvation and have been cleansed from sin to now live a life of humility and service.
