In this Bible study, we explore the deeper symbolic meaning behind the common Christmas decorations, particularly the evergreen tree and its lights. As we unpack the history and imagery of these elements, we will discover how they point to the light of the world, Jesus Christ, and the role of believers to shine His light. Join us as we go beyond the tinsel and ornaments to appreciate the profound spiritual truths reflected in our Christmas traditions.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

To me, it adds that sense of brightness in the dark world, which in a sense, that's what Christ is.

  • The evergreen tree can symbolises perpetual life and fruitfulness, representing the “tree of life” and the cross of Christ
  • Ornaments like apples and nuts originally adorned the tree, symbolising the adoration of Christ
  • Lights, replacing dangerous candles, represent Christ as the “light of the world” that shines in the darkness
  • Christians are called to be the “light of the world,” shining the light of the Gospel

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

If you're not in the Lord, you're not in the light or a part of it. You have to be abide in Him.

This Bible study explores the Christmas tree and its lights, revealing how they point to the light of the world, Jesus Christ. As we embrace the wonder of the season, may we be encouraged to shine the light of the Gospel in our own lives, reflecting the true meaning and glory of Christmas.
