Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus
Hebrews 12:
Hebrews 12 encourages believers to endure hardship by looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him. The gospel offers hope and strength to persevere, knowing Christ's victory secures our eternal reward.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
What does it mean to run the Christian race with endurance? This Bible study explores Hebrews 12, which provides powerful insights into how believers can persevere in their faith journey. The passage uses the metaphor of a race to illustrate the Christian life, showing us how to lay aside hindrances, fix our eyes on Jesus, and understand God’s discipline as an act of love. Through this study, we’ll discover practical ways to strengthen both ourselves and fellow believers as we pursue holiness and peace.
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
- We are surrounded by a “cloud of witnesses” - faithful believers whose examples inspire us to persevere
- Christians must lay aside sin and encumbrances that easily entangle us in order to run the race effectively
- Fixing our eyes on Jesus is essential for maintaining focus and staying on the narrow path
- God’s discipline is not punishment but training that produces spiritual growth
- Christians have a responsibility to strengthen and encourage one another
- We are called to actively pursue peace with everyone and follow the path of sanctification
- Believers belong to an unshakable kingdom that cannot be destroyed
for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:29
It's so often true that the church grows under persecution.
Jesus stands at the center of our faith journey. He is both our example and our source of strength as we run this race. While we may face trials and discipline along the way, we can take comfort in knowing these experiences are shaping us to be more like Christ. Jesus is our mediator of a better covenant, and through Him, we have become citizens of an unshakable kingdom. No matter what earthquakes of trouble may come in this life, our eternal dwelling with Him remains secure. As we continue our journey, let’s keep encouraging one another, pursuing peace, and showing gratitude for the remarkable grace we’ve received through Jesus Christ.
