Suffering for Good
1 Peter 3:10-22
Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God. We explore the confidence we have in Jesus’ victory over sin and death, which allows us to face trials with a clear conscience and a heart set on our reigning King.
God would prefer you holy than rich. Or happy.
Have you ever found yourself wondering whether your faith is actually making a difference, to how you speak, how you treat people, how you hold up when things get hard? This Bible study takes a close and honest look at what it means to live out what we believe, not just in the big moments, but in the everyday ones. From the words we choose to the way we respond under pressure, from the conscience we carry to the care we show to those around us, there is a thread running through all of it. Come and explore what 1 Peter has to say, and discover what it looks like when the truth we hold in our heads begins to shape everything we do.
But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 1 Peter 3:14
The truth to govern our Christian actions.
- The Christian life has two essential sides that must work together: doctrine (what we believe) and practice (how we live). Neither is complete without the other.
- The tongue is one of the most powerful and potentially destructive forces in our lives. Gossip, rumour and careless words can damage individuals, relationships and entire Christian communities.
- Caring for others is at the heart of true Christianity. Genuine Christian love is not just a feeling or a word but a visible, practical action.
- Under pressure, arrest, or persecution, believers are called to remain calm and rational, trusting that God provides what is needed in the moment it is needed.
- Every person has a conscience, and Christians are called to keep it clear by confessing sin promptly and honestly before God, keeping short accounts rather than letting things fester.
- Suffering is not always a sign of disobedience. Sometimes God allows difficulty as part of the process of making us more like him.
- Noah is held up as an example of faithful obedience over a very long period, doing everything God commanded even when it made no visible sense to the world around him.
- Baptism does not save us but is an outward symbol of an inward reality, a picture of dying to the old life and rising into the new one in Christ.
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:15
God would prefer you holy than rich. Or happy.
At the end of it all, everything we have looked at comes back to one thing: the life of Jesus is not just the message we preach, it is the pattern we follow. He is the one who kept his cool under arrest, who cared for people at cost to himself, who obeyed all the way to the cross. And because of what he did there, we have a clean conscience, a new life, and the Spirit to help us live it. That is what Christianity looks like when it gets off the page and into the world.
