The Hiding Place
1 Kings 17:2-7
As Elijah's predicted drought occurs the Lord provides.
We need to learn to listen, to hear, and when we recognize it, be obedient to it.
Have you ever wondered how God provides for those who trust and obey Him, even in seemingly impossible situations? This Bible study explores the remarkable story of Elijah at the Brook Cherith, where God demonstrated His faithfulness through supernatural provision during a time of drought. Through ravens and a brook, God showed that He can use anything and anyone to care for His servants who follow His voice.
And the word of the LORD came to him 1 Kings 17:2
If you're obedient and you are in God's will, it will be supplied.
- The study focuses on Elijah at the Brook Cherith, where God commanded him to hide after prophesying drought to King Ahab
- God provided for Elijah through ravens bringing bread and meat twice daily, and water from the brook
- The experience emphasized the importance of hearing and obeying God’s voice without question
- The brook eventually dried up when God’s purpose was fulfilled, teaching lessons about trust and divine timing
- We see God’s provision, obedience, and the importance of both private and public aspects of faith
You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there. 1 Kings 17:4
We need to learn to listen, to hear, and when we recognize it, be obedient to it.
God speaks to His people in various ways - through His written Word, through circumstances, and through His Spirit’s leading in our hearts. He may speak through a quiet whisper or through clear direction, but His voice always aligns with His written Word. When we learn to listen and obey, He proves His faithfulness by providing exactly what we need, when we need it. Sometimes His answer is immediate, while other times He teaches us patience through waiting. Whatever the timing, God’s answers demonstrate both His power and His personal care for His children. He may use unexpected means - like ravens feeding Elijah - but He always fulfills His promises to those who trust and follow Him.
This study of Elijah reminds us that Jesus continues to care for His followers today just as God cared for Elijah. The brook may have dried up, but God’s provision never did - He simply led Elijah to the next phase of his journey. Like Elijah, we’re called to trust and obey, knowing that God is guiding our path and will provide what we need for each step, even if it comes in unexpected ways. The key is staying close to Him and listening for His voice, just as Elijah did at the Brook Cherith.
