The Prayer for Centrality
John 17:6-10
John 17:1-5 highlights the importance of making Christ central in every aspect of our lives and in the church. Recognising the centrality of Christ is crucial, not only in heavenly matters but also in our daily existence, we should seek God's will and aligning our actions with the principles of Christ.
When he was in the tomb, all things were held together by the word of his power.
Have you ever wondered about Jesus’s role throughout eternity and in our daily lives? This Bible study explores the profound concept of Christ’s centrality - from before creation, through present times, and into eternity future - based primarily on John 17 and supported by passages from Revelation and other scriptures.
And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. John 17:5
When he was in the tomb, all things were held together by the word of his power.
- Jesus had glory with the Father before the world existed, demonstrating His eternal nature and divine position (John 17:5)
- Christ is central to heaven’s operations, as shown through multiple descriptions in Revelation 21-22, including His role as the Lamb
- Everything was created both by Christ and for Christ, highlighting His supreme authority over all creation (Colossians 1:16)
- Christ maintains constant control over all things through “the word of his power” (Hebrews 1:3)
- Churches must maintain Christ as central to their operation and decision-making, not relegating Him to the periphery
- Believers are called to have “the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16), which should influence how we think, speak, and act
I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. John 17:9
What you do stops me hearing what you say.
Jesus stands as the ultimate central figure in all of existence - not just as a historical person or future king, but as the active sustainer and purpose of all creation. He demonstrates this through His intimate relationship with believers, offering eternal life which is defined not merely by duration but by deep fellowship with Him and the Father. Through His completed work on the cross and continuing ministry, He maintains all things by His power while simultaneously working to draw people into relationship with God. His centrality isn’t just a theological concept but a practical reality that should shape how we live, think, and act in our daily lives.
You know, this study really drives home how Jesus isn’t just a part of our faith - He’s meant to be the center of everything! From the mind-blowing truth that He existed in glory before creation, to His current role in holding everything together, to His future reign - Jesus is central to it all. The real challenge for us is making sure He’s truly central in our own lives and churches, not just in theory but in practice. When we get that right, it changes everything about how we live and serve.
