The Company and Start of 2nd Trip

Acts 15:22-41

Acts 15:22-41 narrates the decision to send a letter to Gentile believers, clarifying the Council's judgment and encouraging them. This passage also marks the beginning of Paul’s second missionary journey, highlighting the formation of new partnerships and the spread of the Gospel to new regions.

God never stops working in our lives.

In this Bible study we explore Acts 15:22 onwards, where we uncover a pivotal moment in early Christian history. How did the early church navigate complex challenges while maintaining unity and spiritual integrity? This passage offers profound insights into leadership, conflict resolution, and the dynamic work of the Holy Spirit in building Christ’s church.

it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, Acts 15:25

God never stops working in our lives.

  • The Jerusalem Council resolved difficulties by emphasising:
    • Freedom over bondage
    • Breadth over narrowness
    • Universality over nationality
    • Christianity over sectarianism
  • Leaders in Jerusalem demonstrated spiritual insight by:
    • Writing a letter
    • Sending personal representatives
    • Providing verbal testimony alongside written communication
  • Individuals highlighted:
    • Silas: A chief man among brethren with prophetic gifts
    • Barnabas: A supportive mentor who believed in John Mark’s potential
    • John Mark: Transformed from an initial ministry setback to a profitable servant

For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements Acts 15:28

God is always working to bring fruit into our lives, to make us more fruitful and more fit for his service.

This study beautifully reminds us of Jesus’s transformative power through his church. Just as Barnabas mentored John Mark and Paul eventually recognised his value, Christ continually shapes and refines his followers. The narrative wonderfully illustrates how Jesus works through imperfect people, turning moments of division and weakness into opportunities for growth and ministry expansion.
