One Mediator
1 Timothy 2:5-8
Focusing on the unique role of Christ as the mediator between God and man, and the call for men everywhere to pray with holy hands.
Jesus didn't just die, Jesus laid down his life.
Have you ever wondered what it actually means to have direct access to God? Not through a priest, a saint, a statue, or a ritual, but directly, personally, and with confidence? This bible study invites you to sit with a passage that answers exactly that question. Open your Bible and prepare to discover something that should both humble and thrill you about who Jesus is and what he has made possible for every one of us.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 1 Timothy 2:5
Jesus didn't just die, Jesus laid down his life.
- There is only one God, a truth that sets Christianity apart and was historically compelling to those who had lived in fear of many gods.
- The Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is one God, with hints of this plurality visible even in the Old Testament.
- There is one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, making all other intermediaries unnecessary.
- Jesus did not merely die but voluntarily laid down his life, a willing and purposeful sacrifice to restore our relationship with God.
- Because of Christ, believers have direct and bold access to God, though this boldness should never become arrogance or casualness toward him.
- Paul identified himself in four roles: herald, apostle, witness and teacher, each carrying a responsibility to proclaim truth faithfully.
- Prayer is a central and serious matter, to be approached with a clean heart, free from anger, bitterness and dissension toward others.
- The physical posture adopted during prayer is not prescribed and makes no difference; what matters is the condition of the heart.
- Every believer has a calling, whether in full-time ministry or as a witness in everyday life in workplaces and communities.
- The passage both opens and closes with an emphasis on prayer, underlining it as the source of strength for the church.
I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; 1 Timothy 2:8
Why is the church weak? We don't pray.
At the heart of everything studied here is a simple but staggering truth: you do not need anyone or anything standing between you and God. Because of who Jesus is, what he willingly did, and where he now sits, the way is open. That access comes with an invitation to pray, not casually or as an afterthought, but with a clean heart and a genuine sense of who it is you are approaching. Jesus is the one mediator, the one ransom, the one way, and because of him, you are never on the outside looking in.
