Christ's Once-for-All Offering
Hebrews 9:15-28
These verses emphasize Jesus as the mediator of the new covenant, whose death redeems us from sin and inaugurates an eternal inheritance. The gospel declares His offering on the cross as the ultimate act of love, fully sufficient to cleanse and save.
The blood of Jesus Christ is so valuable that if every single individual in the world truly repented of their sin and cried to God for forgiveness and for Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior it would be sufficient.
What makes Christ’s sacrifice so powerful and unique compared to the sacrifices of the Old Testament? This Bible study explores Hebrews 9:15-28, examining the significance of Christ as our mediator and the power of His blood in establishing the New Covenant. Through this passage, we learn why Christ’s one-time sacrifice is sufficient for all believers and how His role as mediator bridges the gap between humanity and God.
For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Hebrews 9:24
He's a mediator between the two sides of humanity but more importantly from our point of view he's a mediator between us and the living God it's his blood and what he accomplished there on the cross that makes it possible for us to have any kind of a relationship with God."
- Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, standing between humanity and God to bring reconciliation
- The Greek word for “covenant” implies something that comes into effect only after death (like a will)
- The Old Covenant required regular blood sacrifices, while Christ’s sacrifice was once for all
- Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins
- Christ didn’t enter an earthly holy place but took His blood to the heavenly tabernacle
- All people have an appointment with death, followed by judgment
- For believers, Christ will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin
And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, Hebrews 9:27
The blood of Jesus Christ is so valuable that if every single individual in the world truly repented of their sin and cried to God for forgiveness and for Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior it would be sufficient.
Throughout this study, we’ve seen the incredible power of Jesus’s sacrifice. Unlike the sacrifices of old that needed to be repeated, Jesus died “once for all.” His blood is precious beyond measure, enough to cover the sins of everyone who turns to Him. We’re reminded that Jesus doesn’t need to suffer repeatedly – He triumphantly declared “It is finished” on the cross. As Christians, we eagerly await His return, when He’ll appear not to deal with sin again, but to bring final salvation to those who believe in Him. What a beautiful hope we have in Jesus, our perfect mediator who bridges the gap between us and God!
