A Call to Persevere in Faith
Hebrews 10:
This chapter focuses on the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice and exhorts believers to draw near to God with confidence. The gospel invites all to trust in Jesus finished work, forsake sin, and hold fast to hope in Him.
Obedience is better than sacrifice, and how important that is. To be disobedient is to be sinful, so if we know something is according to God's word and we don't do it, then we are committing sin.
Have you ever wondered why the Old Testament sacrificial system was insufficient, and how Christ’s sacrifice is different? This Bible study explores Hebrews 10, which reveals how the old covenant sacrifices were merely shadows pointing to Christ’s perfect sacrifice. Through this passage, we discover how Jesus provides the only true way into God’s presence, and how His sacrifice not only cleanses us completely but transforms us from the inside out.
But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. Hebrews 10:3
The tabernacle and many other things were built according to a pattern that was shown to Moses. He saw the real and reproduced it in the miniature, but even that its activities were just a shadow, a pale reflection of the magnificence that's ahead.
- The law and Old Testament sacrifices were merely shadows of good things to come, not the very form of those things.
- Animal sacrifices were insufficient and could never take away sins permanently.
- The writer bases his understanding on Old Testament scripture, showing the importance of knowing God’s Word.
- We are made holy through Christ’s sacrifice, not our own efforts, though we must work out our sanctification in practice.
- Christ is the only way into God’s presence as our great high priest.
- Believers should come together in true worship, separate from the world.
- There’s a distinction between true believers and mere religious practitioners.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’ Hebrews 10:7

Throughout this study of Hebrews 10, we’ve seen how Jesus fulfills what the Old Testament sacrifices could only hint at. Jesus is not just one way among many—He is the only way into God’s presence. His sacrifice doesn’t just cover our sins temporarily; it removes them completely. What’s beautiful about this message is how Jesus remains with us always. He will lift us, He will carry us, reminding us of the shepherd carrying the lamb on His shoulders. Like the faithful woman whose face “shone with Christ,” our lives should reflect the transformation that comes from walking closely with Jesus, keeping short accounts with God, and living in the reality of His complete work on our behalf.
