The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29

Every single Christian is to be a witness. Every one of us have got to be able to give a reason for our hope that we have in Christ Jesus.

  • The original Bible text didn’t have chapter and verse divisions, which can sometimes create artificial breaks in the narrative.
  • There’s a distinction between being a witness (which all Christians should be) and being an evangelist (a specific gift).
  • John the Baptist’s testimony affirmed Jesus as the Word, the Light, and the Life.
  • The deity of Christ essential to the Christian faith.
  • The concept of “fullness” in relation to Christ is explored, meaning He is complete with nothing lacking.
  • John the Baptist denied being Elijah or “that prophet,” but affirmed his role as a voice preparing the way for the Lord.
  • The message of repentance is highlighted as crucial in John’s preaching and early Christian teaching.

And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God. John 1:34

By grace, God arranged my circumstances so I could hear the gospel. By grace, God led me to some people who would share the truth with. By grace he reached out and lifted me out of the miry clay. By grace he made me his son. By grace he keeps me. By grace he'll take me to glory.

After considering John the Baptist’s witness and the fullness of Christ, we’re reminded of the central role Jesus plays in our faith. John’s unwavering testimony points us to the divine nature of Christ, fulfilling ancient prophecies and embodying the fullness of God’s grace and truth. It’s amazing to see how Jesus, in His earthly ministry, continued the call to repentance that John began, showing us the consistency of God’s message throughout Scripture. This study challenges us to consider our own witness – are we, like John, consistently pointing others to Christ in all we do and say?
