The First Converts
John 1:35-51
John 1:35-51 recounts the calling of Jesus’ first disciples, including Andrew, Simon Peter, and Nathaniel. This passage highlights the initial response to Jesus’ call and the transformative impact of meeting Him, showcasing the beginning of a new journey of faith and discipleship.
No ministry should point to the minister. It should always point to the Savior.
Have you ever wondered how different people perceive Jesus differently? In this Bible study, we see how various individuals in scripture came to understand who Jesus was, and how their perceptions shaped their responses to Him. Through examining John the Baptist’s testimony and the calling of the first disciples of Jesus, we’ll discover important truths about recognising and following Christ.
The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples John 1:35
No ministry should point to the minister. It should always point to the Savior.
- John the Baptist was the forerunner who pointed others to Jesus
- True ministry should always point to Jesus, not to the minister
- Andrew became a disciple before Peter and had a ministry of bringing others to Jesus
- Individual connections were often more effective than general preaching
- Perception of who Jesus is determines how people respond to Him
- The church must maintain proper perception of its mission to evangelize
and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” John 1:36
You have to pray as if it all depends on God, and work as if it all depends on you.
This study powerfully reminds us that Jesus meets each person where they are, just as He did with the first disciples. Whether through John’s proclamation, Andrew’s invitation, or a direct encounter, what matters most is coming to recognize Jesus as the Son of God and choosing to follow Him. The challenge for us today is to examine our own perception of Jesus and ensure we’re pointing others to Him rather than ourselves.
