The Bread of Life: A Call to Believe
John 6:26-40
Jesus invites the crowd to seek the eternal sustenance only He can provide, rather than perishable food. The gospel is proclaimed as Jesus promises that all who believe in Him will never hunger or thirst spiritually and will be raised up on the last day.
We need to learn that our saviour is high and above anything we can imagine and we should be treat with due respect, worship and adoration.
Have you ever wondered about how we should view and relate to Jesus - as a casual friend or as the sovereign Lord? This Bible study from John 4:26-40 explores the profound nature of Jesus Christ’s identity and helps us understand why He deserves our deepest reverence and worship rather than casual familiarity.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35
If Jesus appeared physically, we wouldn't be worrying about what we would say to him. We would fall at his feet with the awesome majesty and glory that he is invested with as did John in Patmos.
- The name “Jesus Christ” has become increasingly casual in modern society, often used as a swear word or treated without proper reverence, indicating a concerning loss of awe regarding His divine nature.
- Jesus shares many titles with God the Father, including Creator, demonstrating the miracle of the Trinity - three distinct persons but one in character, person, and worship.
- The transfiguration of Jesus before Peter, James and John, and John’s vision on Patmos, revealed Christ’s overwhelming glory that caused witnesses to fall at His feet in reverent fear.
- All things are sustained by Christ’s power - even during His time on earth as a child, on the cross, and in the tomb, demonstrating His continuous divine authority.
- Jesus is not meant to be treated as a casual friend but as the Lord God Almighty, worthy of awe and wonder, while still being one who delightfully calls believers His friends.
But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. John 6:36
We need to learn that our saviour is high and above anything we can imagine and we should be treat with due respect, worship and adoration.
This Bible study powerfully reminds us that while Jesus is indeed our Savior who calls us friends, He remains the magnificent, glorious Son of God who deserves our utmost reverence. The study challenges our modern tendency to treat Jesus casually and calls us back to a proper balance of intimate relationship with deep reverence. Most importantly, it emphasizes that Jesus is the one who not only provides spiritual sustenance but will also raise believers to eternal life on the last day - truly showing Him to be the Son of first importance.
