Freedom in Truth: The Eternal Word
John 8:31-59
Jesus promises freedom to those who abide in His word, explaining that true liberty is found in the Son. The gospel message climaxes as Jesus declares His pre-existence with the Father, proclaiming, “Before Abraham was, I am,” identifying Himself as the eternal God.
We may from time to time fall short of that height and the standard that God sets but we are not slaves to it any longer we are free to worship God and that's a great thing.
In the scorching heat of religious tension, Jesus stands resolute, challenging deeply ingrained beliefs about identity, freedom, and spiritual lineage. His words cut through the cultural assumptions of His time, revealing a profound truth that transcends mere religious heritage. With surgical precision, He exposes the difference between superficial belonging and genuine spiritual transformation, confronting His listeners with a radical understanding of true freedom. The conversation moves beyond mere theological debate, delving into the very heart of human identity - challenging each listener to examine their spiritual allegiance and the true source of their freedom.
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32
True discipleship... begins with belief and not passive... it's a belief that makes a total commitment to a relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

- Slavery to Sin
- Active belief and total commitment to God
- Continuous learning and studying of God’s word
- Obedience to Jesus’ commands
- Spiritual Parentage: The text explores the concept of spiritual fathers, suggesting that people either choose God’s way (with God as their father) or Satan’s way (with Satan as their father).
- Jesus’ Divine Claims: Jesus makes profound claims about His divinity, using the phrase “I am” and asserting His existence before Abraham, which deeply challenged the Jewish religious leaders.
- False Accusations: The passage highlights how Jesus was falsely accused by religious leaders who sought to discredit Him, yet He remained perfect and without legitimate condemnation.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36
We may from time to time fall short of that height and the standard that God sets but we are not slaves to it any longer we are free to worship God and that's a great thing.
Jesus emerges in this passage as so much more than just a teacher - He is the ultimate liberator, offering freedom from sin, fear, and self-centeredness. His radical claims about His divine nature and His mission to set humanity free challenge us to move beyond passive religious practices and embrace a transformative, personal relationship with Him. As the speaker beautifully notes, Jesus is not just a historical figure, but the way, the truth, and the life - offering us a direct, intimate connection with God that brings true, lasting freedom.
