Living for God's Glory
1 Peter 4:1-11
Since Christ suffered in the flesh, we arm ourselves with the same way of thinking. We look at what it means to live for the will of God rather than human passions, using our gifts so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.
We don't keep it up, God keeps us up in following Christ.
Have you ever felt like the Christian life is something you have to hold together through sheer effort, as if faith is a performance you need to maintain and a standard you keep falling short of? This Bible study in 1 Peter 4 invites you to take a fresh look at what it actually means to live as a follower of Jesus, not in your own strength, but in genuine partnership with a God whose power is unlimited and whose commitment to you never wavers. Come with an open Bible and an open heart, and discover what it looks like to be truly equipped, truly protected, and truly alive to the good news that is yours to share.
Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 1 Peter 4:9
Prayer is the best thing we can do. Whatever the situation, whether it's health, physical, whether it's health, mental, if it's spiritual problems, the best thing we can do is pray.
- Christians are called to guard themselves spiritually by putting on the full armour of God, working in active partnership with God’s protection rather than passively relying on it.
- The spiritual battle believers face is not against flesh and blood but against unseen forces, making prayer and scripture the two essential weapons available to every Christian.
- The lifestyle practices of the surrounding culture, including drunkenness, sensuality and excess, are incompatible with authentic Christian living, and believers are called to be visibly different.
- Non-believers are often surprised and even baffled when Christians choose not to participate in worldly excess, and that visible difference is itself a witness.
- The gospel is genuinely good news and Christians have a responsibility to share it eagerly, just as they would share any other exciting news, rather than keeping it to themselves.
- Christians are not the ones who maintain their faith through their own strength; it is God who keeps them, and that assurance is a source of deep comfort when we feel we have fallen short.
- Prayer is one of the most powerful tools available to the church, and its neglect is a significant reason for spiritual decline, while churches that prioritise prayer tend to grow.
- Every believer, regardless of their occupation, is in full-time service to God, and that means bringing integrity and Christian character into every area of daily life.
- Hospitality, love for one another, and using our gifts to serve the wider body are presented as practical expressions of genuine Christian faith.
- God hears every prayer from every believer simultaneously, which is a remarkable reflection of his unlimited power and personal care for each individual.
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 1 Peter 4:10
We don't keep it up, God keeps us up in following Christ.
At the heart of everything in this study is a simple but transformative truth: you are not on your own. Jesus is not a standard to reach but a Saviour who holds you, equips you, and sends you out into the world with something worth sharing. The armour, the prayer, the integrity in daily life, the hospitality and the love for others, all of it flows from who he is and what he has already done. Rest in that, and let it change the way you live.
