Psalm 85

Psalm 85

(Read Psalm 85)

There is a very special phrase which occurs in verse ten of this Psalm: loving kindness (mercy in the Authorised Version) and truth have met together. If we link this with John 1:17 it states that grace and truth were realised through Christ Jesus or, as in the Authorised Version, came by Jesus Christ.

The wonderful fact is that Christ could say I am the truth John 14:6, God is the God of truth Deuteronomy 32:4, the Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth John 14:17 and John 17:17. The word is truth.

The truth is very important as it is the essential quality of our faith and trust. The truth must always bring conviction and condemnation unless proceeded by mercy and grace. Mercy is God withholding from us what we deserve. Grace is God giving to us what we do not deserve and could not earn. God’s mercy removes that which blocks our understanding the truth. God’s grace gives us the ability to have intimate fellowship with the truth for above all truth is person and all who truly believe have fellowship with the father and the son in the Holy Spirit.
