Psalm 83

Psalm 83

(Read Psalm 83)

As you read this Psalm you almost get the impression that the author was writing an article for today’s newspaper about Israel. The nation, then as now, was surrounded by nations who were committed to its destruction. There was no way to compromise and no way to produce a state of peace. Then as now they lived on a knife edge and the die seems to get sharper.

Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 10 that all that happened in the Old Testament is an example to us not to make the same mistakes, yet we have not learned the lesson. The church today is like the Jews in the Old Testament. We have by our traditions sidelined God and as a result the church is now surrounded by enemies that seek her destruction. There should not be on behalf of the church, a suggestion of compromise. We need to rediscover the secret of letting our light shine in the darkness, Matthew 5:16, so that others may be drawn to Christ, and not repelled.
