Psalm 81

Psalm 81

(Read Psalm 81)

The writer reminds the people of how they should be rejoicing in all the benefits of being redeemed from the slavery in Egypt. God lifted the burden, released them and when they called he answered by sending Moses to lead them to the promised land but they erred and let their hearts grow cold towards their redeemer, God.

In verse eight it is God who speaks “if you will listen to me”. It is not just to hear the words but to respond positively to the message. The call was to return to the Lord and serve him only. Then God states they would not listen, they would not obey “Oh if only my people would listen” Psalm 81:13 then great blessings would flow from the heart and hand of God.

Reader, you may say to me that it is in the Old Testament and a similar situation could not arise in the church today. Read again the seven letters in Revelation 2:1-3:22, where each one ends with “He that has an ear, let him hear what the spirit says to the churches”. God is still calling to his people to listen and obey him with the promise of a blessing for those who do.
