Psalm 79

Psalm 79

(Read Psalm 79)

The closing verse of this particular Psalm states - We your people and the sheep of your pasture.

The first thought that might spring to mind is of the Lord, the shepherd, but I would like us to take a look at the sheep.

We, the sheep belong to God. We are in the exalted position of being his and are therefore under his care and protection, our wellbeing is in the Lord’s hands. Remember that Jesus told us that two sparrows are sold for a farthing, Matthew 10:29-31. A farthing is a minute amount, but God is aware and Jesus tells us we are of more worth than these sparrows.

He will care, heal and discipline those who are the sheep of his pastures. He provides living water that is the holy spirit and we should not thirst John 4:14. He provides the bread of life, the Bible, so that we should not be hungry, Surely his pastures are full to overflowing of good things for his sheep.
