Psalm 69

Psalm 69

(Read Psalm 69)

My father, earthly father was in some ways a good father and he taught me much, although for quite a number of years he used to manage a public house and on once a working men’s club. As I look back, I do so with a sense of wonder for at the weekends, after those who frequent such places had embibed a certain quantity of liquid refreshment they would often sing, and on many occasions they would sing the old hymns. My first contact with Christian hymns came at these times, hymns like The Old Rugged Cross, When I Survey the Wonderous Cross, There is a Green Hill Far Away and many others.

At Christmas time they would belt out the old carols for weeks on end. Truely the Psalmist uttered prophetically in this particular Psalm, Psalm 69:12, I have become the drunkards song.
