Psalm 49
The Psalmist brings into focus one of the great truths of scripture, that of redemption and the need of a redeemer.
The first thing to remember is that to be redeemed is to be set free from slavery. John 8:34 ‘everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin’. We all have sinned therefore we all need a redeemer.
To be a redeemer there are four qualifications. The first is to be free from debt, second is to have the redemption price note Psalm 49:8 and Mark 8:36, thirdly the one who is to be the redeemer must be willing to pay the price drop and fourthly, most importantly, the redeemer must be a close relative. There is one who meets all these requirements The Lord Jesus Christ.
