Psalm 31

Psalm 31

(Read Psalm 31)

There are two verses here that immediately attract my attention, these are verse 7 and verse 20 (Psalm 31:20) that remind me of the promises of the Lord to give his people protection. Please note first that he knows all about the difficulties of life that we who are believers face every day then secondly he would protect us. These two great themes are wonderfully expressed in Isaiah 43:2.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.

This beautiful verse of God’s care for us tells of his promise that no matter how great our difficulties he is always with us. The hymn writer has it so right, ‘No never alone’, he promises never to leave us alone. Not only is he always with us in our difficulties but faith in him means that they will never overcome us for he holds us in his hand John 10:28-29 and he promises not only to be with us but that he will not allow us to be harmed for he promises to keep us for time and eternity.
