Psalm 30

Psalm 30

(Read Psalm 30)

The early part of this beautiful psalm talks about someone who believes in God being lifted up. One of the old hymns talks about ‘love lifted me’ which raises two questions from where are we lifted and where are we lifted to?

Two wonderful verses that answer these questions 1 Samuel 2:8 (KJV) a great song of praise to God himself makes a tremendous statement that God lifts believers from the dung hill, rubbish heap, and sets us amongst princes. The dunghill is an apt description of our standing before God before we became Christians. No matter who we are, no matter our status in life, no matter what our religious practices were God states clearly that we have all sinned, Romans 3:23 and to offer our goodness and religiosity is to add insult to injury all our good works are like filthy rags Isaiah 64:6 when we call to him for forgiveness, it is from the morass of all our failures that he lifts us from. Then he sets us amongst princes but what princes!

Paul writes a letter to the people who lived in Ephesus saying in Ephesians 2:6 he made us to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. If you like he lifts us from the ridiculous to the sublime. That is why we love and worship him.
