Psalm 23

Psalm 23

(Read Psalm 23)

This is probably the best known passage in the Bible. Most certainly it is the most famous Psalm. Even people who would not be acquainted with much of the word of God would know something of this Psalm. ‘The Lord is my shepherd I will lack nothing’ for the Lord, the shepherd, provides for our every need.

To continue the theme of ‘The Lord is my shepherd’ in Isaiah 40:11, we have the picture of him as the tender career of his sheep, Luke 15:1-7.

John writes, John 10:11 that he is the good shepherd. He lays down his life for the sheep, so that the sheep will live.

In Hebrews 13:20 he is the great shepherd having laid down his life for the sheep. God raises him from the dead so our shepherd lives on caring for his sheep.

He is the chief shepherd, 1Peter 5:4, no equal and none greater, and he is a rewarder of all who believe when we reach heaven. The wonderful all embracing shepherd is Jesus our Lord. For ‘you were like sheep going astray’, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls 1Peter 2:25.
