Psalm 18

Psalm 18

(Read Psalm 18)

The book of Acts 13:22 reveals that God found David the son of Jesse ‘a man after my heart’. We can see how God came to describe David in this manner.

For all David’s faults he openly declares I will love thee O Lord. This is the foremost requirement that God desires to see in every believer, a passionate love for Him, a passionate desire flowing from this love and to walk the path of righteousness.

He acknowledges his dependency is in God alone. He, God, is David’s protector, deliverer, shield, great defender and the strength of his salvation. You can see he boasts only in the Lord. He then gives voice to extol our Lord God Almighty, the only one who is worthy of our praise, worship and adoration.

So we see in this Psalm a picture of one who is wholly in love with God, completely dependent on him and full of praise for his God.

How do we match up against this man of God? Remember Zechariah.

‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts’. Zechariah 4:6
