Psalm 143
All Christians experience difficult times, occasions when we need some precise guidance from our God and Father.
Here in this Psalm the writer gives us some guidelines for us to follow in just such a situation, things he had learned during his life as a servant of God. The first of these is his remembrance of the way God helped him in the past. The old hymn puts it very clearly, ’Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done’. It really is a faith strengthening exercise. The second thing he draws our attention to is that of meditating on all ‘thy words’, the Bible. This takes us beyond our personal situation and experience and into the realm of awe as we consider the universe, and see the magnificence of his great power, and glory in his creation. This is another faith strengthening exercise.
