Psalm 114

Psalm 114

(Read Psalm 114)

There is one beautiful concept to attract our attention in this short Psalm. This is the question of a sanctuary. Israel was a sanctuary for God once they had been redeemed and brought out of Egypt, Egypt being a picture of the world. They became a holy nation where the holy God could dwell. When in the wilderness they were instructed to build the tabernacle, the final part being described as the Holies of Holies where he would dwell. Later a temple was built following a similar pattern.

Today the great wonder is this. That God’s sanctuary is the church. Not the building that is called a church but the true church which comprises of all those who have been born again, called living stones. 1 Peter 2:5 For all Christians are a part of the sanctuary. But more wonderful still is the great reality that each true believer is the dwelling place of God. 2 Corinthians 6:16 and 1Corinthians 6:19 God with us and God in us.
