Psalm 136

Psalm 136

(Read Psalm 136)

One of the good things about the Psalms is the simple truth that they were written by people who had experiences just like us. In this particular Psalm the writer was in reflective mood. He first takes time to reflect about the greatness of his God, He is alone God and mighty in creational power making the world, the heavens and all that is in them he is great in his goodness. Jesus reminds his disciples, Matthew 19:17, ’there is only one who is good’

He then turns his mind to the exodus and gives honour to God for the great deliverance from Pharaoh and Egypt, for his goodness displayed in God’s leading of his people through the wilderness. No wonder that every verse ends in an exclamation that God’s mercy and loving kindness is everlasting. In all his experience, however easy or difficult, he could look back at the goodness of God always being a central part of his life.
